It’s something I have wondered for years: Why in the world does my family say the following prayer before meals

Come Lord Jesus, Be our Guest. Let these our guests to us be blessed. Amen.

It goes back to my dad’s side of the family and had become a tradition. Over the years it it has become more of a chant than a prayer and I really did not understand it especially since there were no one but my family at the table.

I got the part of asking Jesus to be the guest at our table as he is always at our table and in the lives of my family.

The other part, the part of our guessed be blessed, didn’t make any sense until until earlier this school year when my parents took in an exchange student from China and then one from Germany a few months later.

Thus, for the past few months there have been guests at our table and in our home and the blessings have gone both ways. They have been a constant reminder to keep Christ in the middle of it. From the random adventure of putting buttered bread in the microwave for longer than a minute (Yeah that turned awesome) to the random accidental outbursts of Chinese and German that happen there is never a dull moment.
